Well theres more than one insto out there, do they act in harmony or do they try and feed off each other as well.

Yep of course they do, just look at what Goldman did to the rest of them through short selling the sub-prime market then subsequently lowering their valuations of the collateral value of those bonds forcing a market meltdown.

Now did "they" leave the market?

No.

Someone did.

All we can say with certainty was that supply hit the market, or a lack of demand. The price went down as a result.

Why did the supply / lack of demand happen?

Information was not available to the owners of the shares to seek higher prices.

Its that simple.
