This demerger is beginning to get some legs. The AFR has this short piece before subscription kicks in
BHP Billiton has secured key tax exemptions for a potential $20 billion demerger while pushing forward government discussions, suggesting the resources giant is leaning towards approving the transaction.
Will it be good for shareholders? It depends how the demerger occurs. The current thought is that the new company would only be listed on the ASX and BHP PLC shareholders would get BHP PLC shares in kind.
