The big 4 operating profit is still climbing just like it always has. This is a very good sign. It all depends on how bad the writeoffs will get, but after the crisis they will have the market to themselves and should be relatively unimpaired.
If they drop their divs by 20% for a year or two to pay for the writeoffs then it's disappointing, but not the end of the world. It's still much more than you can get in a bank account, and franked.
