A.C.C.C. INSTITUTES PROCEEDINGS AGAINST SENEVENS
INTERNATIONAL LTD
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has instituted legal
proceedings in the Federal Court, Hobart against SeNevens International Ltd.
The ACCC alleges that SeNevens has engaged in false, misleading and
deceptive conduct by promoting its disposable Safeties Nature Nappy product as
100 per cent biodegradable when the ACCC alleges it is not, in contravention of
sections 52 and 53 of the Trade Practices Act 1974.
Proceedings have also been taken against SeNevens' former Executive Director,
Ms Charishma Seneviratne, for allegedly being knowingly concerned in or a party
to the contravening conduct.
The ACCC is seeking a range of remedies including injunctions restraining the
respondent from engaging in the conduct and declarations concerning the
conduct alleged by the ACCC.
The matter has been listed for a directions hearing before Justice Marshall in the
Federal Court, Hobart at 9:15 a.m. on 7 October 2008.
