i know qantas isnt quite in the same league as nwt but if they have to make a provision even if they dont know the quantum of the fine why doesnt nwt have to do the same, do they need comply to differnet accounting standards, one continuous disclosure and the other shonky bros? (although ballentine always like to say under continuous disclosure rules tc..)

Qantas Airways said it would make a $US40 million provision to cover a potential fine that may be issued by US authorities over a freight price-fixing probe.

Qantas said in a statement it was too early to make an estimate of the likely fines but it had made the provision in the 2006/07 accounts after fines were issued on other airlines.
