not sure I really understand (or agree) with this:

"Share investing is not about making a profit but protecting your capital. If it was about making a profit then we would all have a one share portfolio hoping to hit the jackpot!!"

Why isn't share investing about making a profit? If I was only interested in protecting my capital, then I would have thought that something safe like bonds or other fixed interest products would be the preferred option.

Maybe I don't quite understand the point you were making...
