I find that the really strong beers ------- are far too strong in taste - ie. the alcohol.
The cheap ones are just plain awful - but, even the really good Trappist ones - they are too much.
I've found that the best flavour is about the 4% to maybe 5 or 5.5% -- over 6 - gets very iffy - and the big ones - na, I just cannot enjoy them -- I only like beer at all when the weather is at least very warm to hot - and on those warm to hot days - the big Trappist hitters are just over the top -
they are good for what the monks designed them for - to provide nourishment when they couldn't eat anything - other than that - well, maybe clean engine parts or something.
when I was kidnapped and beerboarded in Germany a while back -
this is the beer they raved about
' Vieille Bon Secours Ale'
and, this is one that they sent a messenger off to some hidden stash to retrieve so the prisoner could try it -
it was nice - but, just on the border for me taste wise - I would have it again though - but, the weather would have to be - just right - a cooler day - but, still and lovely sun
