This may be seen as good news.

But it doesn't exactly put them in the strongest bargaining position, does it?

- Two false starts floating it.
- It is well known that CFE's business model does not include actually mining. So buyers will know that, even if CFE do not sell right now, they are not going to mine it themselves.

Part of the strength of your negotiating position is if the potential buyer knows you are prepared to withdraw from the sale process. I am not sure CFE sends this message.

It is a better time to be buying, or mining, copper mines than selling them.

Mining may not be their business model. But if they become slave to that model, and outrightly refuse to get dirt under their finger nails, there will be times like these when they will deliver sub-optimal results.

There is a time for cheap asset purchases. There is a time for mining (when metal prices are good but asset/equity prices poor). And there is a time for asset divestment and sitting on cash.

It remains to be seen how CFE deals with markets such as we have at the moment.
