Great topic and info guys! I've been trading bitcoin for over a year now through bitfinex. They got hacked and I lost about half (about $US50.00 for me as I'm small time but made it back again ). Some things to keep in mind... China represents about 80% of BTC trading volume. Wealthy Chinese are looking for any way to get their money out of the country but the govt is cracking down on chinese bitcoin exchanges to stop the flight of currency so keep up to date on what is happening in China.
Things I keep in mind is that BTC is like owning precious metals. I can't buy groceries with them. Govt's don't like competition for their own currencies so it's a regulatory wild west out there but there is good money to be made trading it. I use BTC to live test my trading theories. I treat it like a trip to the pokies. Never spend more than I want to lose and cheer when I get a win.
