You raise a good point when comparing the rules for social gathering to packing people on a plane, however it depends how you look at the statistics.
Let's look at Australia. Population 25,000,000. Current active COVID cases not in hospital 500.
So that is 0.00002% of the Australian population that have tested positive and are still active.
The chances of the virus spreading on the plane is low, because the chances of someone getting on the plane with the virus is so ridiculously low.
Having said that, if someone DOES get on the plane with it, it is likely to spread to those nearby.
