if you are staying anywhere near london you would want to be earning a squllion
if you are going to travel the whole time i wouldnt be using london as a base
actually when i did it i didnt use a base i just travelled the whole time, if you are sick of cheaper accommodation you can always take a rest in a nice hotel somehwere in europe/uk
london is a rip off
