The disaster for the miners is the slow down in demand for resources from China in particular. This in time will pick up. The nonsense about work choices is just that. Most people are still working under there old agreements and the mining industry is still in strife because of the lowering of demand and the lower prices commodoties attract. Lets be real about this. Do the Opposition have any policies that would lessen the likelyhood of current closures and retrenchments? If there are I would like to hear of them. We all know that some businesses could possibly survive if we worked for peanuts under third world conditions but that I would suggest is not an acceptable solution.
