Amanda Lacaze below puts it realistically:

Ms Lacaze also noted many of the proposed rare earths projects pushing for development had been in the pipeline for decades. “To say ‘let’s throw government money at projects just so we’ve got more rare earths being dug out of the ground’ , I’m not a fan of that,’’ she said. “I pay a lot of tax and I’d like my tax dollars used very wisely. There are areas where governments can certainly assist and facilitate, but propping up projects that may not have been able to see attract investment is not the task of government.”
