Something fishy with the sell side has been going on for quite some time now. It works by abusing the ASX rules for the placing and removing of orders during trading hours when these rules do not apply which is after hours and in the pre-market. You note that sells placed during trading hours and removed after hours thereby distorting true picture of buyers and sellers.
Sometimes the sell side is loaded pre-market, either when announcement expected or the bid price is on the increase (frequently places at 3 cents below).Today the pre-market sell has been loaded at 15 cents at about 07:30 before most are awake.
Unfortunately as this is naked manipulation, which is against ASX rules, ASX and ASICS have no interest in the matter.
The question though is why has this been going on for so long for no apparent benefit to any party.
Possible reasons (although could be for something completely different).
1). Accumulation by a party who, for whatever reason, does not wish to disclose who they are by staying below the 5% threshold. This has been for too long and no real change in top 20 shareholders noticeable, apart from Lloyd Miller III (he started purchasing last year and this has been going on for a lot longer).
2).One of the large shareholders borrowing stock to short-sell to average their buy-in price down.
Would only need to borrow less than the 1% threshold (1.6 million) to be able to do this on a regular basis as only a proportion of the days volumes necessary to affect price.
3). There is a third party interested in the assets of BTR and is intent on obtaining them as cheaply as possible. To this end they would be happy to manipulate sp on long-term basis on the hope that shareholders will eventually lose patience and sell out regardless of price and/or losses.
In each of the above reasons one tactic could be used and that is the selling down of stock on good news announcements usually for the copper in Mumbwa. Possibly with reason 3 that will keep up pressure until last of the feasibility studies announced.
Whatever the reason think that next few weeks will determine as on occasion he news has triggered an upward run on the SP which has overcome these devious goings on.
