"Buntine is also being closely watched because of a management arrangement he has with the Perth listed investment company Great Southern Plantations for some of its owned and leased northern stations.
Great Southern is getting out of the cattle business after two unprofitable, muddled years. It is expected soon to put on the market AACo's former Cape York property Wrotham Park, for which it paid $53 million, as well as Chudleigh Park near Townsville and Moola Bulla near Broome, bought for more than $20 million.
If Buntine picks up any of these stations - Moola Bulla is the most likely - his status in the industry will be further enhanced."
It's pretty clear why GSP wanted our cattle. With the strong interest in cattle stations, unincumbering them was of strategic importance.
