It will happen. The fundamental chemistry in favour of large scale adoption of Vanadium for grid scale storage is as good as Lithium is for mobile applications (EV's, laptops, phones etc). The chemistry is easy to scale and never wears out.
Unfortunately pumped hydro is still cheaper.
OTOH it is very hard to get hydro storage now without incurring the wrath of enviro's.
