I think there are market makers in SLF, so there is 1-2% trading premium. I ditched SLF on the basis that I would avoid the liquidity problem, and I can get a good proportion of the index by trading three or four stocks (more fun - Westfield is half the index). There is also a largish fee 0.4% (or more?), compared to STW and VAS (around 0.23% or so).
I think the attractiveness of the REIT sector in the boom made SLF popular, but for reasons above, I think it is not good in a small portfolio.
