This is my understanding only and I'm happy to be corrected if these ground to space lasers are powerful enough to take down a satallite and not merely "bump" small pieces of debris to avoid collisions. I still think its amazing they can even do that so I'm not critisizing at all. Also I'm not sure how accurately they can predict the new path of the debris they are bumping other than that they are bumping it off course enough to miss the satallite they are trying to protect so I'm not sure they could use the laser to bump debris into the course of another satallite that they would want to inflict damage to and I don't think management are viewing this technology as such a weapon anyway. Its just a way to avoid random collisions.
