UPDATE: ANZ is slashing 1000 jobs across Australia, just days after slugging homeowners with an interest rate hike independently of the Reserve Bank.
The move has come under immediate attack from the Finance Sector Union, which says there's no justification for axing so many jobs given the size of bank profits in Australia.

The bank called union representatives to the company’s Docklands headquarters this morning to break the news.
