What makes you think it protects banks ? It is there to protect consumers and competition. Some bankers would love to have only 2 banks, because it is easier to operate a CARTEL with 2 players than with 4.

I am curious what you mean when you say "most banks want it removed". The "banks" want ? Do you mean the shareholders, the directors, the management, or the workers ? Which part of those is "most" ?
