Well over one month you are right. And if I look back at the three and six month periods ANZ has also outpeformed so you are also right there.
Over one year, CBA outperforms (and incidentally was the only one to hit an all-time high):
And over 12 months, the order favours CBA, NAB, WBC and ANZ:
So the devil is in the string (how long) and which horse you are backing (or feeling sorry for lol!).
But to the original question, I think there might be a discount for having overpaid for the Suncorp acquisition, and also ANZ might have lost some credibility in even considering the MYOB acquisition. They had been looking like a bank with money burnng a hole in its pocket which needed to be invested/offloaded as soon as possible.
