I wonder if ANZ should mark to market their short position.
It was reported that ANZ would not be able to cover their debt to Opes from the shares sales from this portfolio and claim the excess that Merrils had.
So, in summary they have taken a $1billion portfolio sold it for, lets say, $650million. That portfilio probably worth around $1.2million now at least.
So they have $650 million cash against a potentially short position of $1.2million....all in 6 weeks.
Wow...this will go down as the worst trade in Australian history.
