Given RBS is a pretty distressed seller, ANZ may be able to pick up a bargain. Not sure if it will be a CBA type bargain, where you book a profit on acquisition because you value the assets at more than you paid.
Possible downside is making ANZ's accounts noisy and perceived higher risk which is likely to slow down process of ANZ share price showing fair value
