"Our family has never considered themselves to be pawns." - how people consider themselves is an opinion, it doesn't change reality.
"What decision would your family make if Australia was threatened with invasion?" - I'm not sure if Turkey, Iraq, Vietnam or Afghanistan ever planned to invade Australia, but that's just my own opinion of course. Hell, even Japan never planned to invade Australia if you look at post-war intelligence.
