IMO the letter is interesting and no doubt a truthful account of the average Digger
entrenched in Gallipoli .
From a sociological point of view, however, it would be interesting if John's comment
"that I might try the bayonet on him" was simply an innate part of John's
character or if it was it brought about by him witnessing the barbarity on the battlefield?
