techcoat, there's some uncertainty on the direction about the existing copper wire and the new Fibre proposed from Telstra.
The copper is ACCC regulated while the Fibre is less regulated. Less regulation would obviously benefit Telstra's new monopoly on fibre.
ACCC wants to push the perceived more efficient/faster technology that Telstra own. ACCC at this stage have a neutral stand.
Telstra say the copper wire is aging and slow but evidence suggests Telstra could be restricting the copper.

iiNet have this pdf showing the iiNet DSLAMs patched up to the copper in the Telstra exchanges are faster than what Telstra's equipment can deliver.
