Banjar, I can still visualise Kruschev banging his shoe on the bench at the UN, and with anyone more hawkishly disposed than Kennedy, we might have had a taste back then of what nuclear war is like....I have a copy of Peter Sellers in "Dr Strangelove" I watch every few years, lol. But true, neither MaNamara nor any ex-administration chappy is likely to tell the full true story - they dont want to finish up like Kennedy. The picture McNamara painted of all those nuke missiles on a hair trigger leaves me cold. China stated some months back they had something like 600 missiles aimed at Taiwan. Didnt specifically state nukes, but what else would they be? Then I wonder who their other missiles are aimed at? And Russia's? It would only take one incident to set off a chain reaction........and Global Warming would cease to be the topic of the month.
