I feel like I’m butting in on a personal conversation- sort of like when you join a conversation at a party but too interesting not to.

I completed a degree in languages so have had the good fortune to have read Dostoevsky and Tolstoy in Russian. And Zola in French. Feels a little different in the original language I think. Zola indeed seemed fascinated by the lives of ordinary folk but I always thought him bleak as if those lives were a way of him expressing his own bleak sense of the world.

the Russians I thought fascinating. Light and dark. Black and white. Hot and cold. Sad and happy Laughing and crying. A people of opposites. Dostoevsky and Tolstoy in some ways are like those two sides.

anyway great choice of music on the thread. Very soulful. Thanks.
