The Shire Council pulled out of the Land and Environment Court appeal this month when the developer gave an assurance there would be no impact on the region's water supply.
But the President of Coastwatchers, Shiela Monahan, says other issues remain neglected.
“What we're trying to do is get the best provision we can to make greater conservation of the important biodiversity of the Majors Creek area,” she said.
“We just want to get as many conditions in place that will afford the best protection, because there's such a lot of important biological diversity up in that area.”
The court case is due to begin on February 1.
.....................So this quotation indicates to me that they know they have little chance in stopping the mine from going ahead. It seems they have both feet in the water and have to jump in. All they are going to achieve is a lot of time and money wasting and to gain something to "cabbage, cabbage, rhubarb, rhubarb" about at their next meeting ! Cripes.
