Just as a reminder, Lynas is not closing down the LAMP. The Malaysian government is closing down the lamp or is, at a minimum, threatening to do so.
Lynas, as a business entity, has not only the right but the fiduciary responsibility to take action such as accelerated depreciation, notice of discharge to staff/employees, notice of vacating, and all other means at its disposal to manage its business responsibly while enlightening the politicians in K.L. of the results of their possible anti Lynas decision. This is called pressure, and those in a decision making position CANNOT be immune from the ramifications of their decisions. These jokers must be held accountable for job losses, foreign investment losses, anti business practices, political biases, cultural bigotry (anti Anglo, pro Cino), and domestic and overseas economic difficulties.
The Malaysian and international press will take these decision makers to task, and careers will be ruined by any backwards thinking decision, which would force Lynas to close and withdraw from Malaysia. Simultaneously, Japan, the West, and the environmental community will shun Malaysia and its leadership for its limping and weakness in the face of issue, and will be seen for what it is; A tin pot, squalid, jungle nation, ill equipped to join the club of enlightened developed nations.
I am not quite sure that Malaysia does not already know this, and this dramatic appeal hearing is nothing more than a formality to quell the sweaty masses of the ill-informed.
