The market may not be rational but its not completely irrational. 500000 shares is very small in the scheme of things.

Any investor that sees the long term goals of this company will see right through this. If investors were interested in accumulating this stock, this announcement would not change there thinking.

Plus, if you are a consultant and you were offered shares as payment, you must believe that the shares are worth it.

I know if I was working for a company and they said shares or cash for payment, 95% would say cash. (Not saying that the consultant did not get cash also), but to have shares as part of the payment is a good sign.
