I guess Apple have their reasons like.
1.8b active Apple users. Thats customer acquisition ticked.
Available in-store and online globally. International expansion ticked.
Apple Pay uses NFC so if your terminal accepts NFC you can accept Apple Pay or pay online. Thats merchant acquisition ticked.
Merchants pay no extra over and above the card fees so that is going to cause incumbent BNPL players a very very big problem.
Apple want their customers to love them. Other BNPL players will never achieve the brand loyalty Apple owners have for the brand.
About as much effort for Apple to get into the BNPL space as choosing the next new watch strap colour.
