f 100 is increased (inflated) by 1.25 or 25% or one-quater to 125 - surely then the inflation rate is 25%.But of course, decreasing 125 by only 20% gives a result of 100. Anybody disagree ?? Or am I missing something

Yes Phill you are correct but plus 25 is only 25% when added to a 100 if the starting point is lower say 80 the % is higher and if its higher say 125 the % increase is lower Zeds quoted .25 not 25%
