I am discussing CQ because it is an MPAC, and the only one I know of which has extensive published work done on toxicity. PBT2 is an analog of CQ which has lost the iodine. Both work as metal chelator/chaperones, but one difference is the improved BBB penetration of PBT2, and that may or may not be a good thing for dogs.
It would be interesting to see a PBT2 or other MPAC pilot study on MS, TBI, or post op delirium, but am not holding my breath. Understanding the toxicity issues better with PBT2 and dogs, considering that seems to be what the company will succeed or fail on in the short term, seems worth some conversation.
