    Pete,You will never get it right timing market crashes, what you can get right is observing the evidence in support of accumulating dividend paying shares in down turns and whenever spare cash allows, as well as reinvesting dividends. If you simply look at the short V shaped recession that took place around March 2020 when Covid turned up, purchasing the bluechip shares like BHP, RIO etc was a great opportunity to accumulate for downstream wealth building

    . So if you look at the charts of the companies in question and look at the historical length of time recessions generally persist for, you can see it appears they present opportunities to accumulate and average down your cost per share.

    It comes down to the power of compounding by reinvesting dividends coupled with long term capital gain, by buying on the dips or riding pullbacks until the share price recovers. If you have a number of years to retire then your accumulation over the years will have been proven to be correct. Just my opinion, but the evidence is easy to find.
