Airtasker take a 22% cut (yes that's right). From my understanding, payment goes directly through airtasker and they are paid from the company, not by the individual.

Therefore, if the customer elects to pay by after pay then the individual airtasker doesn't have the option. I imagine that they will still be paid the same way, as afterpay will pay the full amount for you. So no, there won't be 1.7 million new merchants.

I feel it's a mutually beneficial relationship, afterpay gets in on some larger payments and airtasker gets customers who may not have the cash at hand for certain jobs
