I hope it does - emerging markets have an affordability barrier (in cash flow terms) to buying just about anything. Afterpay could solve that and be bigger than anything like it is in Australia. There are 690m people in SE Asia and all are needing affordability solutions. That's presumably why Afterpay have been registering their trademark in Thailand, Singapore etc and why the private equity placement was intended to accelerate global roll out. Yeh Ant Financial and Wechat pay may well have their own solution - ideally APT could still supplement that at least outside China where Wechat pay doesn't operate (to use Wechat pay wallet and payment mechanism you need to have a Chinese bank account (ergo be a resident in China).
