I may well be missing something, but don’t APT charge a +(x)c per transaction too? Also if we know there is a range, and SMEs are charged around 6%, and something like 30%+ of their merchants are from this segment, what happens to the average when all those SMEs refuse to pay any more than 2.9%? As an owner of an online SME myself, I can tell you we’d never pay 6% if there is a viable alternative. The reason I mention it is it was raised that SZL uses its higher margins in SME to support lower fees for big customers and remain competitive - PayPal could easily pull this buttress out from all the other providers by targeting their SME bases, and in fact would be an intelligent first move.
