I do find the arguments of BNPL as a budgeting tool on here a bit disingenuous. Credit-cards are of course the worse offenders, but when we all end up paying more on consumption (with the 3-7% BNPL fees) because consumers can't budget, please don't try and tell me BNPL's are providing some sort of social service or I we are net better off as consumers for them.
I was in a pub last night paying EFTPOS for beers as I usually do. Noticed the pub was charging a blanket 1% on the bill (couldn't be bothered to argue the point) for VISA payments. One of the main arguments on this website is retailers don't pass on VISA fees so why bother with BNPL. They will begin pushing the RBA for the ability to pass on BNPL fees, just as they are starting to pass on c/c fees in this tight retail environment.
