Hi Chad,
To answer your question, fund managers are clients of these big institutional brokers. Clients would include (hedge, pension, mutual funds, investment banks, insurance companies, ETF’s etc).
I’d call all of the above the smart money. Normally when I buy a stock, I want to see institutional buying, chart trending in the right direction or a major reversal, and the fundamentals of the company all lining up.
