    Appen will have its challenges due to narratives of legacy tech.

    But it's a specialist service provider and will be around for a long time.

    Consumer base has not yet tapped into A.I personal agents - it is still at an academic level thats starting to explode.


    Appen lost deep learning work mostly in digital advertising that bought in AU$300m+ per annum.

    Ad spend plummeted during Covid as everyone stopped spending and in 2022 interest rate environment caused further spending cuts in Advertising with Big tech. To this day Big tech is laying off 10s of thousands of jobs almost quarterly and Appen loss of revenue was a byproduct of that.

    Digital advertising is now starting to bounce back but unlikely Appen will have all of it like in the past but the quality of data is more beneficial for model builders as these Deep Learning techniques Big tech use for Ad Spend most of the work has been done by Appen anyway.

    Google was Web Evaluation not Digital Advertising and at 26% gross margin with endless pay disputes I am delighted it is now someone elses problem!

    Bottom line is - you need Data for AI and alot of it. Yes, synthetic data can annotate a dog and a cat but will never annotate human behaviour, bias and sentiment
