    The source of the volume or the reason for it is irrelevant, what is a giveaway in the market is the relationship between volume and spread at any particular moment or tick. That's what is studied and exposes the intent of market participants. It will expose those that as you say "pump/dump" and you can take measures to not get caught by it.
