AQUARIUS Platinum the worlds fourth-largest producer of the metal said yesterday net profit for the third quarter to March more than tripled, boosted largely by higher platinum group metals (PGM) prices and improved market conditions.

A relatively stable rand had also contributed to improving cash margins, despite production for the period remaining almost flat compared with the prior year.

Net profit was 23,2m, up 257% from 6,5m in the same quarter last year, while earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortisation increased 110% to 46m. Revenue (PGM sales and interest income) was up 64% from 78,5m in the previous comparable period to 128,8m.
