just on top of my head from what I remember... Over 90% of rare earth mined are process in china (MP sends their rare earth to China anyway) but majority of rare earth ore/deposit are not in China (correct me if i am wrong). US has the capability to process rare earth in past but China was/is able to do much cheaply and efficiently just like most lithium are processed in China..
Apparently, REE is much harder to mine and separate / process into.. not sure if Lynas the only one or few outside China produced REE minerals from Mt Weld... So if I am not wrong, will Lynas need MP (Lynas already has the capability to mine and process REE while MP sends all their ore to China to process). Sure lynas can source REE ore somewhere else if it needs to...
I think a typical jet fighter needs about over 2000kg REE
