The Chinese don't mention SYN but they did say this about ARR:

“Based on what we have tested for China Netcom during 2006, so far only Arasor provides this kind of WiMax-based RoF solution, which will give customers more flexibility and easier deployments” said Li Yunjie from the Chinese Academy of Telecom Research under China’s MII".
Comment: Obviously, Chinese research can be trusted so I am inclined to respect that.
