A big pull factor for any new railway, apart from projects in Fermont/Labrador City region are the big plans north of Shefferville such as Adriana / WISCO's Otelnuk mine with potential for 50mtpa & Tata Steel's ongoing investments.
A regulatory change and negotiations between the Quebec Govt, Champion Iron, ArecelorMittal & others could perhaps result in an upgrade to the existing Cartier railway with a short extension to Point Noire port & a future extension north from Mont Wright to Shefferville.
The current Sept-Isles to shefferville railway has limited spare capacity of which Campion has just signed up for 7 mtpa and no doubt other companies will be demanding their share of capacity as they look to go into production.
It will be interesting to see how the rail solution plays out - 9mtpa unlocked from Fire Lake North would be a nice addition to Bloom Lake!
