Share buybacks simply enhances the chances of achieving their incentive targets.
So the motive is questionable!

Capital reorganisation
In the event of any capital reorganisation or other similar supervening event, performance rights may be adjusted having regard to the ASX Listing Rules and on the basis that participants do not receive any advantage or disadvantage from such an adjustment.

They may still get an advantage even if the share price retreats after possibly squandering all this money.

One could conclude, that the rewarded one's, decide how much their cohorts should be rewarded.
