Yak,you say,"there are suicide cults in the outreachs of Catholicism".Please name them or quote a reference. The doctrine of "no salvation outside the Church" was understood at the time to apply to those people who understood the claims of the Church,but chose not to be a member of it,whether they were Protestant,Jewish,or Muslim or whatever.That is still the meaning of it today.If your interpretation were correct we would have to say that the Church teaches that none of the Jewish patriarchs can be in Heaven.Have you ever heard any Catholic make that claim? Quite the contrary.For instance,in the Catholic bible you will find that Abraham is mentioned as being in Heaven.(If you need chapter & verse nos. I'll find them for you.) If you are quoting ecumenical councils why stop at the Fourth Lateran Council?For the sake of people who misunderstood the "no salvation outside the Church" dogma the Second Vatican Council declared,"Those who,through no fault of their own,do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church,but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart,and,moved by grace,try in their actions to do His will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience---those too may achieve eternal salvation."-----Lumrn Gentium Have a nice day.
