"..Had a Mazda rotary in the mid 70's, went like a rocket, did well over 200,000k's, never a problem…only thing I replaced was the battery"

I had the same experience around the same time. This was after driving a Datsun 240Z, a Jaguar V12 Etype, and a Mercedes 350 SL. The servicing was tax deductible via our professional practice, but otherwise it would be really expensive.

Now that I only do about 1000 kms p.a., just around town, I've resisted the temptation to have an expensive car again, so I have a Holden Astra wagon (big dog in the tailgate).
It's absolutely gutless and the various bits just fall off it, eg wing mirrors at the slightest nudge, front bumper is regularly hanging loose. It's my first experience with Holden and I'd never touch it again.

Mazda 626 wagon is what I should have gone for - far superior.
