stop cherry picking some (admittedly) inspirational stories.
They are the inspirational PRECISELY BECAUSE they are so rare. It is utterly ridiculous to take these stories and say,
"SEE! that one-in-a-million person can do it - therefore there is NO excuse for you not to do it!"
Let me give you an example,
There are SOME people that can run 100m in under 10 seconds.
Yes, SOME humans are capable of it... I can pick out a whole bunch of stories where people that had the right genetic conditions and "wanted it badly enough" were capable of running 100m in under 10 seconds.
if your unemployment benefits depended on you running 100m in under 10 seconds, I don't care how "badly you wanted it" you would NEVER be able to do it.
therefore it's ridiculous to say, "oh you're just not trying hard enough"
Taking inspiration from the 0.1% of the population and using their capabilities to make policy that applies to the other 99.9% is bloody stupid!
